Aluminum is slim, modern and moisture-proof, ideal for kitchens and bathrooms. Real wood is warm, premium and naturally insulating, best in dry living rooms and bedrooms. Faux wood gives the look of wood in a tough, moisture-proof composite, a great-value choice for busy or humid rooms.

Narrow one inch slats give finer light control and close down tighter to darken a room, and they suit small windows and bathrooms. Wider two inch slats look cleaner on big windows and give a clearer view when tilted open, with fewer lines across the glass. We help you match the slat to the window.

They get a room dark but not pitch black. Closed slats block most light, though a little slips through the slat gaps and the cord holes. Narrow slats and a tape that hides the cord holes darken better. For true darkness we would suggest a blackout roller or honeycomb, and we will tell you which fits your room.

Somewhat, and real wood helps most. Closed slats add a layer at the glass that slows heat loss, and natural wood has a small thermal edge over aluminum. For the strongest energy savings we would point you to a cellular honeycomb shade, but a tilted venetian still cuts glare and solar heat gain in summer.

The wide slats make them easy. Dust lightly with a cloth or a vacuum brush, and wipe aluminum or faux wood slats with a damp cloth. Use a dry cloth on real wood so it does not swell. Tilt the slats both ways to reach each side.
